No - the majority of more capable students got that way by doing martial arts. The classes are there to help you develop your fitness, not for the fitness to be a barrier to participation.

Not in a first class. Adults are welcome to start sparring whenever they feel ready. We don’t start sparring with children until they reach their yellow belt (that’s around a year after they start).

Yes. In fact, we encourage you to, as we want you to see what it is that your child is benefitting from. We usually ask parents of new children to stay for the first class. After that it’s up to you.

As far as they can be, yes. We make specific efforts for the classes to be appropriate for neurodivergent students, including having some neurodivergent instructors who have lived experience of at least some of the challenges that children face. Every child is an individual and the classes will not be ideal for every person. This is one of the reasons why we offer a free trial period for everyone. That way you can find out firsthand rather than having to guess.

Yes. Martial arts is one of the best activities for helping children build confidence in a structured and positive way.
At ProActive Martial Arts, children learn step by step. They are encouraged to listen, try, practise and improve at their own pace. Over time, this helps them feel more capable, more focused and more confident both inside and outside the class.
-
Yes. Martial arts can be excellent for shy children.
Many children start quietly, nervously or unsure of themselves. Our instructors create a friendly, supportive environment where children are encouraged without being pushed too hard. As they settle in, they often become more confident, more willing to take part and more comfortable around others.
-
Yes. Beginners are welcome to join our martial arts classes at any time.
Your child does not need any previous martial arts experience. We help new students settle in, learn the basics and build confidence from their very first class.
-
For their first martial arts class, your child should wear comfortable sports clothing they can move in easily, such as a T-shirt with joggers or leggings.
Please also bring a water bottle. We will explain everything else when you arrive, including uniform, class structure and what to expect next.
-
Grading gives children a clear goal to work towards.
Students are assessed when they are ready, not rushed through. Our instructors look at effort, focus, technique, attitude and progress in class. Grading helps children stay motivated, build discipline and feel proud of what they have achieved.
-
Yes. Our children’s martial arts classes are structured, supervised and age-appropriate.
Safety, respect and control are taught from the beginning. Children learn how to move, listen, follow instructions and train responsibly in a supportive environment.
-
The cost of martial arts classes depends on your child’s age group and how often they train each week.
At ProActive Martial Arts, we offer clear membership options for children, teens and adults. Please review our pricing page or contact us and we will help you choose the right class and membership for your child.
